Week 18: The Hero’s Journey

blog-Heroes-journeyWe are learning this week about The Hero’s Journey as an opportunity to rescue our authentic selves.  Your authentic self can be of true service to others, after you complete your epic journey into the unknown.  What is the Hero’s Journey?  It is only the basic framework of almost every great story and myth in human history.

If we don’t open ourselves to anything new, our lives are governed and limited by precedent.  If we are unwilling to step into the unknown, our mind is reduced to a copy of a copy of someone else.  That is not for me!  But don’t think that you need to wait for courage to face the unknown.  No courage is required if you align yourself with service-driven purpose.

As summarized by Joseph Campbell, the Hero’s Journey is basically:

After encountering a ‘herald’ who calls the hero to something better… “A hero ventures forth from the world of common day into a region of supernatural wonder: fabulous forces are there encountered and a decisive victory is won: the hero comes back from this mysterious adventure with the power to bestow [gifts] on his fellow man.”

You want examples of the The Hero’s Journey?  How about Beowulf, Odysseus, Luke Skywalker in Star Wars, the paraplegic Marine in Avatar, and Neo in The Matrix.  From the Bible, there is Noah, Daniel and Gideon to name a few.

In network marketing, we can be the ‘herald’, inviting someone we like to address something that they deeply care about.  It could be that they want their children to not only graduate from college, but to walk across stage debt free.  It could be they want extra income so a spouse can stay at home with the kids instead of warehousing them in daycare.  It could be that they want to retire 15 years early and have true time and financial freedom.   Our hero will encounter challenges, but we are there to help them.  With training, and focused effort, they can eventually enjoy the same amazing victory as the hero’s described by Campbell.  And they can return to the tribe as a hero, bearing gifts.

Want to know more about Campbell and The Hero’s Journey?  Check out this short video that Mark J shared with us as part of the MKMMA:

I am elated to be a Servant Leader who knows, goes and shows the way, and because of this I am very wealthy for life.

I have come so far already.  Today I begin a new life.

It is definitely time to ‘Think and Grow Rich’.

Week 17: You are Powerful

blog-you-are-powerful-beyond-beliefKnowledge does not apply itself.  It takes the development of new habits, and consistent action.   If you have studied the book Think and Grow Rich, you are familiar with the formula for success:

Success =

DMP (Definite Major Purpose) + PMA (Positive Mental Attitude) + WPOA (Written Plan of Action) + MMA (Master Mind Alliance)

I am getting so much out of my MKMMA (Master Key Master Mind Alliance) class.  I have learned that anything one focuses on becomes abundant.  When you are shopping to buy a new Honda SUV, you see Honda SUVs everywhere.  If you are a guy with a pregnant wife, you see pregnant women everywhere.

Thus it is very easy to reinvent yourself.   Last week we focused on the virtue of kindness, and kindness manifested itself all over the place.  This week I am focused on the virtue of industriousness.

Industry – Lose no time; be always employed in something useful; cut off all unnecessary actions.

The virtues we are looking for are everywhere.  I already know this before I see it.  This is because the world within determines the world without.

Someone once wrote, “Most men lead lives of quiet desperation and go to the grave with the song still in them.”  Most people see a few others with success, love and riches, but they are focused on their own lack.  The Law of Growth takes over, and they get more lack.   If you wish to eliminate lack, focus on abundance.  If you wish to eliminate fear, focus on courage.  If you wish to eliminate disease, focus only on health.

You are powerful.  Right now.  You have to give yourself permission to have access to that power.

You can’t claim your reward, if you continue to cling to what you lack.  We reap what we sow, exactly.  For example, in Network Marketing, if you think that once you start getting big checks, then you will become a great leader, you are misguided.  The people and resources that you need will show up if you now live inside the correct principles, such as The Law of Growth.  Otherwise, you will struggle.

I am not only going to identify people and actions related to the virtue I am focused on, but I am also going to give those people compliments.  This is powerful.  This means I can give a gift to everyone, anytime I want.

People are caught up in measuring up to others.  And the result is that they are stranded in a place called “never enough”.   I have my own goals, and I don’t measure myself against others.  Coach Mark J. also taught us to ask ourselves nine words to move from “comparing” to creating.  The words are:

What did I do right?

What can I improve?

I am elated to be a Servant Leader who knows, goes and shows the way, and because of this I am very wealthy for life.

I have come so far already.  Today I begin a new life.

It is definitely time to ‘Think and Grow Rich’.

Week 16: Killing Them with Kindness

blog-kindnessYou can’t claim your reward, if you continue to cling to what you lack.  We reap what we sow, exactly.

We must entertain only desirable thoughts (e.g. success, servant leadership, kindness).  We must use only harmonious language.  The Law of Growth tells us this:

Law of Growth:  Whatever we think about grows. What we forget atrophies.

Knowledge does not apply itself.  Our actions are governed by habit.   This week we took on a new habit, to do (and document) at least two kind deeds every day.   It was fun.  Early in the day, I found myself thinking of the goal and seeking to ‘Do It Now’ just to finish the task.  But once the daily requirement was met, I found it easy and fun to do more kind things for more people.

As we learned earlier in this MKMMA course from James Collins:

Greatness is not a function of circumstance. Greatness, it turns out, is largely a matter of conscious choice, and discipline.

What an appropriate choice for this week, kindness.  When you give more, you get more.  Sugar, not vinegar.  From Og Mandino:

I will increase my knowledge of mankind, myself, and the goods I sell, thus my sales will multiply. I will practice, and improve, and polish the words I utter to sell my goods, for this is the formulation on which I will build my career and never will I forget that many have attained great wealth and success with only one sales talk, delivered with excellence. Also will I seek constantly to improve my manners and graces, for they are the sugar to which all are attracted.

I have come so far already.  Today I begin a new life.

It is definitely time to ‘Think and Grow Rich’.

Week 15: Nature’s Greatest Miracle

blog-natures-greatest-miracleI am rare, and there is value in all rarity; therefore, I am valuable. I am the end product of thousands of years of evolution; therefore, I am better equipped in both mind and body than all the emperors and wise men who preceded me. But my skills, my mind, my heart, and my body will stagnate, rot, and die lest I put them to good use. I have unlimited potential. Only a small portion of my brain do I employ; only a paltry amount of muscles do I flex. A hundredfold or more can I increase my accomplishments of yesterday and this I will do, beginning today.

The preceding words of Og Mandino are in Scroll IV in The Greatest Salesman in the World.  As my company expands nationally this month, it is very comforting to know that previously, I only used a small portion of my potential.   I am improving my skills and efficiency to enable myself to take advantage of all of the opportunity on the table as we expand nationally and offer new mobile phone services.  I have accomplished a lot in 2014, and I will accomplish far more in 2015 starting today.

I have autonomy as I proudly provide service and create productive leaders in my network marketing organization.  I provide exceptional materials, personal training, and hands-on assistance as I recruit and develop successful leaders who are creating their own amazing realities.  I can only provide this training and support to my team if I have polished my own words regarding my business.    I am elated to be a Servant Leader who knows, goes and shows the way, and because of this I am very wealthy for life.  I cheerfully share my opportunity and create productive networkers by teaching them exactly what to say and do to be successful.  I am giddy as I build teams that grow fast, without my direct involvement, creating great wealth for me.  I proudly help customers save money, and help my Associates make money.

I have been given eyes to see and a mind to think and now I know a great secret of life for I perceive, at last, that all my problems, discouragements, and heartaches are, in truth, great opportunities in disguise. I will no longer be fooled by the garments they wear for mine eyes are open. I will look beyond the cloth and I will not be deceived.

I will win, and I will become a great salesman, for I am unique.  I am nature’s greatest miracle.

As I overcome my challenges, I will be more able than ever to coach and support my team through their challenges.  I won’t compare my results to anyone else, but I will reach my own goals.   I will learn from my mentors, but I will not seek to copy them exactly.  I am unique.   I will sell my uniqueness.   People enjoy working with me.  Let your light shine; promote your own uniqueness.

I have come so far already.  Today I begin a new life.

It is definitely time to ‘Think and Grow Rich’.
