Week 25: Kindness Revisited for World Down Syndrome Day

blog-NDSCPlease check out my blog from back in Week 16 – Killing Them with Kindness.   I was going to write on a very different topic today, but I just noticed that in honor of World Down Syndrome Day, the National Down Syndrome Congress and six other national Down syndrome organizations are promoting “Random Acts of Kindness” in the United States.

Many organizations have collaborated to create a toolkit for World Down Syndrome Day (WDSD) on March 21, 2015 that you can use to share information about Down syndrome with your community, celebrate people with Down syndrome, and spread a little love and KINDNESS in the name of Down syndrome!

It’s as easy as 1-2-3-4 and really congruent with what we have been working on in our Master Key (MKMMA) course:

  1. On March 21st, wear a t-shirt if you can that says something about Down syndrome.
  2. Choose an act of kindness, like taking cookies to a fire station, or checking in on an elderly neighbor (we have a list of suggestions here to help get you started!)
  3. Print a WDSD postcard (like the image above) and give it out or place it with your Random Act.
  4. Take pictures of the random act and post on your social media pages with the hashtag #WDSD15. We’ll have people on the receiving end of our kindness, and the whole world watching on Facebook and Twitter.

Let’s make this the biggest, best World Down Syndrome Day yet!

I am elated to be a Servant Leader who knows, goes and shows the way, and because of this I am very wealthy for life.   A huge motivator for me in everything I do is my daughter, who has a diagnosis of Down Syndrome.

I have come so far already.  Today I begin a new life.

It is definitely time to ‘Think and Grow Rich’.

Week 24: Can’t Trust Your Feelings

blog-Og-Mandino-bookToday I will be master of my emotions.  It is one of nature’s tricks, little understood, that each day I awaken with moods that have changed from yesterday. Yesterday’s joy will become today’s sadness; yet today’s sadness will grow into tomorrow’s joy. Inside me is a wheel, constantly turning from sadness to joy, from exultation to depression, from happiness to melancholy. Like the flowers, today’s full bloom of joy will fade and wither into despondency, yet I will remember that as today’s dead flower carries the seed of tomorrow’s bloom so, too, does today’s sadness carry the seed of tomorrow’s joy.

The words above are from Scroll VI in Og Mandino’s The Greatest Salesman in the World.  My takeaway from this Scroll is that we can’t trust our “feelings” – when it comes to doing the tasks to accomplish our goals.

Let’s say you are committed to making $100K per year in your business.  To achieve that, you decide that you need to actually talk to 20 potential customers or business partners each week, or roughly four per day.  Assume that you have to, on average, make 10 “dials” (not everyone is going to answer the phone) to reach the four people per day.  Some days you are tired, so you may not “feel” like making the 10 “dials”.  Some days you are busy, so you may not “feel” like making the 10 “dials”.  Some days you are sad, so you may not “feel” like making the 10 “dials”.  Some days you are fearful, so you may not “feel” like making the 10 “dials”.

It doesn’t matter how you “feel”.  What matters is what you are committed to achieving!

In fact, if you let your ACTIONS lead your feelings, you will get the task done, and then you will “feel” better in the end.

Today I will be master of my emotions.  And how will I master these emotions so that each day will be productive?  For unless my mood is right the day will be a failure. Trees and plants depend on the weather to flourish but I make my own weather, yea I transport it with me. If I bring rain and gloom and darkness and pessimism to my customers then they will react with rain and gloom and darkness and pessimism and they will purchase naught. If I bring joy and enthusiasm and brightness and laughter to my customers they will react with joy and enthusiasm and brightness and laughter and my weather will produce a harvest of sales and a granary of gold for me.

And how will I master my emotions so that every day is a happy day, and a productive one? I will learn this secret of the ages: Weak is he who permits his thoughts to control his actions; strong is he who forces his actions to control his thoughts. Each day, when I awake, I will follow this plan of battle before I am captured by the forces of sadness, self-pity and failure.   If I feel depressed, I will sing.  If I feel sad, I will laugh.  If I feel ill, I will double my labor.   If I feel fear, I will plunge ahead.   If I feel uncertain, I will raise my voice.  If I feel insignificant, I will remember my goals.

Knowing these things, we now have a choice.

From this moment I am prepared to control whatever personality awakes in me each day. I will master my moods through positive action and when I master my moods, I will control my destiny.  Today I control my destiny, and my destiny is to become the greatest salesman in the world!  I will become master of myself. I will become great.

I am elated to be a Servant Leader who knows, goes and shows the way, and because of this I am very wealthy for life.

I have come so far already.  Today I begin a new life.

It is definitely time to ‘Think and Grow Rich’.

Week 23: Expanding Your Comfort Zone

blog-Comfort-ZoneSometimes we are told to just “step out of our Comfort Zone” to achieve success.  In reality, that doesn’t really work.  A more realistic view is to EXPAND our Comfort Zone, day-by-day and inch-by-inch.

Most people choose comfort over perceived risk.  We are left with the life we currently have, and for many people that is not pretty.  The “Comfort Zone” will control us until we choose to control it.

Our MKMMA course is really delivering.  Here are the components (the walls) of the Comfort Zone that often constrain us.  Imagine they are trapping you inside a 5-sided fence:

  1. Fear
  2. Guilt
  3. Unworthiness
  4. Hurt Feelings
  5. Anger (sadness is related, pretty much sadness is just anger turned inward)

Remember, you and your DNA have survived the ages.  You have the genetic make-up to improve.

When we change the way we look at things, the things we look at change.

These 5 constraints that keep us in the “Comfort Zone” are actually the tools to use to manifest your new blueprint (using the Law of Dual Thought), and achieve your major goals.  We are now using these tools to change; it is hard mental labor.  Let’s address each of them.

Fear is a tool that can be positive.  It gives us enormous amounts of energy.  The first step is to remember gratitude; we should be grateful for fear.  When you are really fearful, your concentration is intense.  All distractions are eliminated.  Fear converts thoughts into actions.  Fear gives us the energy and focus to do our best.  We let go of things that are not important.  Imagine being able to summon that state of mind and being able to direct it at our major goals.

Hurt Feelings can be a positive tool.  Acknowledge that you must actually care if you have hurt feelings.   For example, let’s say you want to use a Network Marketing business to get financial freedom, or for your kids to go across the stage at college graduation debt free.   If you get a “NO” from a potential recruit, remind yourself that you only have hurt feelings because you deeply care about your kids walking across stage at college graduation debt free.   Use the Law of Substitution.  Be grateful for the occasional rejections to remind you how much you care.  You can also use the Law of Substitution to remind yourself that your friends are not rejecting you; they just don’t see your Network Marketing business as a match for their needs for now.   We can still love our friends, and we can still focus on our business success.

Anger can be a positive tool.  Anger is actually energy, and by the way, sadness is actually anger turned inward.   Use the Laws of Substitution and Dual Thought.  Normally, people can only hold a thought for an average of 6 seconds.  When you are angry, notice the energy and the sustained focus.  You can use the anger toward your major goals, instead of a reason to stop.  There is an old quote from hundreds of years ago, that Frank Sinatra later made famous, “The best revenge is living well.”  If you are angry, get yours by taking positive action and being successful.

Guilt can be a positive tool.  When you feel guilty about not completing some task to advance our major goals, we should feel good.  It means that we know what to do, and that we have the skills and ability to do it.  Ask yourself, “What am I in fear of?”   Emerson taught that if we do the thing we fear, the death of fear is certain.  You already know from the previous paragraphs how to deal with fear.  Let go of the need to be right (or wrong).  Don’t berate yourself or judge yourself, remember you are Nature’s Greatest Miracle.  Don’t beat up yourself for your mistakes.   When you do bad things, it does not make you a bad person.  Guilt is a confirmation of your goodness.

Feeling Unworthy can be a positive tool.  You actually are worthy, so you can have anything you want.  You just can’t have everything at the same time!  You are no longer a child who wants to be a cowboy, pro athlete, astronaut, fireman and king.  You must choose!  The things you want have a price and they take time.  Do you want to be a network marketing top earner, parent of the year, caregiver for your elderly parents, community leader, youth soccer coach, a triathlete, AND a leader in your local religious congregation?  Don’t overfill your plate, which leads to no results and eventually feeling unworthy.  Have the humility to choose your priorities, and then be committed to your choice.   Ask yourself, “What would the person I intend to become do next?”

Make a choice to use these five things as positive tools, instead of things to hold you back.  It takes determination and practice.  You want to EXPAND your Comfort Zone, day-by-day, just a few inches at a time.  Soon you will be accomplishing your major goals.

Another Quote:  The purpose of life is to discover your gift.  The work of life is to develop it.  The meaning of life is to give your gift away.

Week 22: More Miracles

blog-MiraclesRecognizing greatness, or any virtue, in others creates greatness in you on demand.  You cannot recognize the virtue if the virtue was not already inside of you.

When we hear the word ‘miracle’ we usually think of something from ancient religious texts.

In our Master Key Master Mind Alliance (MKMMA) course we have learned to make the art and the act of recognition of miracles a daily habit.  But knowledge does not apply itself.   From Hannel’s Master Key:

You may have all the wealth in Christendom, but unless you recognize it and make use of it, it will have no value; so with your spiritual wealth: unless you recognize it and use it, it will have no value. The one and only condition of spiritual power is use or recognition.

All great things come through recognition; the scepter of power is consciousness, and thought is its messenger, and this messenger is constantly molding the realities of the invisible world into the conditions and environments of your objective world.

Thinking is the true business of life, power is the result. You are at all times dealing with the magical power of thought and consciousness. What results can you expect so long as you remain oblivious to the power which has been placed within your control?

Often people feel trapped by fear, guilt, unworthiness, anger/sadness and hurt feelings.  Those feelings are used as ‘reasons’ for not taking the very actions they know they need to be successful.  But some people have learned that those very feelings can be the tools that can spur us on to success.  Some miraculous advice from our coaches and guides:

When one of these resentments, or whatever causes you to “relive” an unpleasant experience in your life or maybe it’s just pops into your mind, imagine a dear loved one. Get that image in your head, feel the love and take a few deep breaths.

Now imagine the thing you have the resentment at and superimpose the image of the your loved one over the resentment. Use your very powerful imagination for your good. Merge these two things together and breathe deep. Now let go of the resentment part of the image and just feel the love you have for that dear, dear loved one. Just stay with that love for a few breaths and then bask in your own greatness for doing something so marvelous for yourself.

I am elated to be a Servant Leader who knows, goes and shows the way, and because of this I am very wealthy for life.

I have come so far already.  Today I begin a new life.
