Week 18 – Master Key 2018: The Hero’s Journey

Stream Mercedes Benz - Letter

I was able to earn this free Mercedes-Benz – and the free vacations – because of all of the people who I have helped on their own “Hero’s Journey”.

The Hero’s Journey is an opportunity to rescue our authentic selves.  Your authentic self can be of true service to others (and yourself), after you complete your epic journey into the unknown.  What is the Hero’s Journey?  It is only the basic framework of almost every great story and myth in human history.

If we don’t open ourselves to anything new, our lives are governed and limited by precedent.  If we are unwilling to step into the unknown, our mind is reduced to a copy of a copy of someone else.  How boring!  But don’t think that you need to wait for courage to face the unknown.  No courage is required if you align yourself with service-driven purpose.  You want to have a purpose that is bigger than just yourself.

It is fun to be a “hero” or a “shero”!

As summarized by Joseph Campbell, the Hero’s Journey is basically:

After encountering a ‘herald’ who calls the hero to something better… “A hero ventures forth from the world of common day into a region of supernatural wonder: fabulous forces are there encountered and a decisive victory is won: the hero comes back from this mysterious adventure with the power to bestow [gifts] on his fellow man.”

You want examples of the The Hero’s Journey?  How about Beowulf, Odysseus, Luke Skywalker in Star Wars, the paraplegic Marine in Avatar, and Neo in The Matrix.  From the Bible, there is Noah, Daniel and Gideon to name a few.

In our network marketing business, we can be the ‘herald’, inviting someone we know to address something that they deeply care about.

heros_journey-2016It could be that they want their children to not only graduate from college, but to walk across stage at graduation 100% debt free.  It could be they want extra income so a spouse can stay at home with the kids instead of warehousing them in daycare.  It could be that they want to retire 15 years early and have true time and financial freedom.   Our hero will encounter challenges, but we are there as mentors to help the new business partner.  With training, and focused effort, they can eventually enjoy the same amazing victory as the heroes described by Campbell.  And they can return to the tribe as a hero, bearing gifts (e.g. treasure).

Here are some more examples that you can apply to The Hero’s Journey that you will take:

I am elated to be a Servant Leader who knows, goes and shows the way, and because of this I am very wealthy for life.

I have come so far already.  Today I begin a new life.

It is definitely time to ‘Think and Grow Rich’.

Week 17 – Master Key 2018: Reinvent Yourself on Demand

Chicago Launch - Jan 2018Let’s have some fun!  The greatest of the great reinvent themselves when needed to take advantage of new opportunities.

I have been given eyes to see and a mind to think and now I know a great secret of life for I perceive, at last, that all my problems, discouragements, and heartaches are, in truth, great opportunities in disguise.  I will no longer be fooled by the garments they wear for mine eyes are open. I will look beyond the cloth and I will not be deceived.

The above quote is from Og Mandino in The Greatest Salesman in the World.

If you have studied the book Think and Grow Rich, you are familiar with the formula for success:

Success =

DMP (Definite Major Purpose) + PMA (Positive Mental Attitude) + WPOA (Written Plan of Action) + MMA (Master Mind Alliance)

It is very easy to reinvent yourself.   Recently, we have focused on the virtue of kindness, and kindness manifested itself all over the place.  This week I am focused on the virtue of industriousness.

Industry – Lose no time; be always employed in something useful; cut off all unnecessary actions.

In other words, I am putting in the hard work.  (Hint:  It is easier when you enjoy your work.)

People are often caught up in measuring up to others.  And the result is that they are stranded in a place called “never enough”.   I have my own goals, and I don’t measure myself against others.

Nine words can help us move from “comparing” to creating.  The words are:

What did I do right?

What can I improve?

I am elated to be a Servant Leader who knows, goes and shows the way, and because of this I am very wealthy for life.

I have come so far already.  Today I begin a new life.

It is definitely time to ‘Think and Grow Rich’.

Week 16 – Master Key 2018: Random Acts of Kindness

Dec 2017 - Ringing Out - BAt the St. Luke’s Hospital Transplant Center, they have a tradition.  After discharge when your transplant is complete, you get to “Ring Out” as you leave the hospital.  My wife got to ring the bell as she left with her new kidney on December 30th.

Not everyone may want to donate a kidney, but you can do a random act of kindness each day.  You can’t claim your reward, if you continue to cling to what you lack.  We reap what we sow, exactly.  For example, if you sow kindness, you will receive kindness.

We must entertain only desirable thoughts (e.g. success, servant leadership, kindness).  We must use only harmonious language.  The Law of Growth tells us this:

Law of Growth:  Whatever we think about grows. What we forget atrophies.

Knowledge does not apply itself.  Our actions are governed by habit.   This week I refocused on a developing habit, to do at least two kind deeds every day.   It was fun.  Early in the day, I found myself thinking of the goal and seeking to ‘Do It Now’ just to finish the task.  But once the daily requirement was met, I found it easy and fun to do more kind things for more people.

As we previously discovered through the MKMMA course from James Collins:

Greatness is not a function of circumstance. Greatness, it turns out, is largely a matter of conscious choice, and discipline.

What an appropriate conscious choice for this week, kindness.  When you give more, you get more.  Sugar, not vinegar, is the better way to go.  From Og Mandino in The Greatest Salesman in The World:

I will increase my knowledge of mankind, myself, and the goods I sell, thus my sales will multiply. I will practice, and improve, and polish the words I utter to sell my goods, for this is the formulation on which I will build my career and never will I forget that many have attained great wealth and success with only one sales talk, delivered with excellence. Also will I seek constantly to improve my manners and graces, for they are the sugar to which all are attracted.

Be a leader of a movement that inspires you.  Find something worth changing.  It is one of the most kind things you can do.  Check it out:

Week 15 – Master Key 2018: Why Resolutions Fail and What to Do Instead

Stream Weekly BP - Dec 2017The majority of Americans drag themselves to a job they no longer like while they simultaneously worry about getting fired.  There is something different that you can build.  Start by watching a 4-minute video:  http://www.StreamBP.info

But my plan for time freedom and financial freedom is not a “resolution” I just created for the new year.

Don’t make “resolutions”, and don’t only think about your dreams on January 1st.   If you want something in any area of life, don’t think about anything else daily except the positive thing that you want.  Do not think about anything that you want to remove from your life.

For example, you cannot efficiently get rid of debt by thinking about… debt.

It is all about the Law of Growth.

Can you get out of debt by constantly thinking, ‘I need money, I am in huge debt’?  Not for long AND you are making it harder by thinking about ‘need’ and ‘debt’, actually growing the tendency to have situations that create more ‘need’ and ‘debt’.  You would want to focus on being wealthy for life, instead.

You can’t claim your reward, if you continue to cling to what you lack.  We reap what we sow, exactly.  We must entertain only desirable thoughts (e.g. success, servant leadership, kindness, wealth, health, etc.).  We must use only harmonious language.  The Law of Growth tells us this:

Law of Growth – Whatever we think about grows. What we forget atrophies.

You want to starve your shortcomings to death.   If Laura wants to lose weight, she should not think about “dieting”.  This is because she will keep ending up in a situation where she needs to “diet” over and over and over.  Instead, Laura should focus on the virtues of moderation, or true health.  Use the Law of Growth in your favor.

This month, I personally am focused on the virtues of industriousness, kindness and competitive greatness.

Awareness is the beginning of change.  If you want something, don’t think about anything else except what you want.

I am elated to be a Servant Leader who knows, goes and shows the way, and because of this I am very wealthy for life.

I have come so far already.  Today I begin a new life.

It is definitely time to ‘Think and Grow Rich’.
